History of GGG
GGG (the short form for Goddess Gift Gathering) was founded by Silvia Wilson in Vancouver, Canada.
It started out as a simple get-togethers with friends at home to swap clothing. Then it was held at public places with guest speakers, snacks and prizes provided for a small fee.
Gradually, Silvia decided that she required a different way of hosting the event. Instead of renting a venue and providing snacks for a fee, she wanted to hold the event more easily in a mutually beneficial way.
Events are usually hosted at a restaurant where participants buy their own food and drink. There is no admission fee but there are still door prizes and usually a guest speaker or mini-workshop.
Occasionally the event is hosted at a home with participants contributing to a vegan potluck.
Each event also includes a gratitude exercise which is done before participants leave the event. The purpose of this exercise is to support all the participants in feeling grateful for all they currently have in their lives.
The event also includes a swap of items that participants bring to give away. Participants are encouraged to receive items they love, desire or require. This activity is a fun way to release and recycle items that are no longer desired or required by those who give them away.
